On Saturday, April 30, 2011, College Bound students, partners, parents and staff participated in the 2011 Hands on DC Work-a-thon. College Bound's assigned service site was at Bunker Hill Elementary, a former stomping ground for some of our families. The volunteers at this site performed various renovation and beautification projects such as painting, mulching, and gardening . Several volunteers helped with painting various walls and murals throughout the the auditorium which will be used for their upcoming graduation. City Council Chairman, Kwame Brown joined the group to congratulate them on their efforts. In addition to volunteering College Bound also helped to raise funds for Hands on DC's scholarship program. One volunteer commented “it is always good to see people come together for a good cause and it’s really good to see young people out helping”. College Bound was excited about another opportunity to collaborate with Hands on DC and looks forward to continuing this partnership to benefit the families in the community.
