Executive Director

Message from the Chief Executive Officer

Welcome to College Bound, and thank you for taking a moment to learn about our programs and services. Since our inception in 1991, we have been committed to making college a reality for 8th through 12th grade DC public school students. We have successfully established a model that works for Washington, DC area youth. Every year we proudly herald the fact that over 95% of our seniors complete the Academic Mentoring program and gain acceptance into college, while our younger students develop the confidence, academic and
social skills needed to fulfill their aspirations to attend college. To further advance our efforts, we launched a SAT preparatory program that is specifically designed to provide classroom instruction in small groups of College Bound sophomores and juniors. The academic and mentoring aspects of the program are complimented by scholarship opportunities. Our scholarships serve as an added incentive to keep our students motivated and on course to earning their college degree.

Our strategy is clear-cut. We maintain small-populated community based programs, so that the organization may offer students the personalized attention they need. This would not be possible without the dedication and drive of our volunteers. For more than a decade, metropolitan DC area professionals have joined College Bound to accept the challenging task of social responsibility. For a minimum of two hours once a week for nine months, professionals support this organization and make a difference in a student's life. It is because of our volunteers that College Bound can boast of its ability to provide quality and individualized college preparatory programs.

The students we serve are diverse in terms of grade point averages and interests, however they can all best be described by the word - OUTSTANDING. College Bound students are highly motivated, focused and determined to reach their personal goals in life. Because of the energy the students exhibit toward their goals, they inspire the volunteers and staff.

Our contributors clearly understand our mission. The donor's support not only sustains the program, but also is a moving force behind our growth. With the advent of new programs, and additional staffing and scholarships, College Bound is positively affecting the outlook of hundreds of DC area youth. Our community partnerships offer vital resources that contribute significantly to our programmatic delivery. Our programs and services bring together motivated students, dedicated volunteers, shared partnerships and committed donors throughout the metropolitan area around the common vision of accessing higher education.

Our success over the last decade is an indication of great things to come as we prepare for the future of this organization. Again, I welcome you, and look forward to your involvement with College Bound.

Most sincerely,

Rustin M. Lewis
