The College Bound Scholarship

College Bound students are eligible to apply for the College Bound scholarship if:

  • They are currently in the 11th or 12th grade
  • They have actively and consistently participated in the Academic Mentoring Program for at least one academic school year

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Consistent commitment to the program
  • Commitment to his or her academic improvement
  • That he or she is preparing for college intellectually, socially and emotionally

Completed scholarship applications are due by March 19, 2010

Scholarship application available in mid January.

 

Scholarship Recipients

If you received a College Bound scholarship, here is some information that may be helpful for you:

  • Students may request scholarship funds on the following schedule:

    • Fall: August 1st - September 15th

    • Spring: December 1st - February 15th

  • Students must use all scholarship funds within 6 years of high school graduation.

  • Students must enroll in college within one year of high school graduation.

  • You must maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA to maintain your scholarship.

    • Students who fall below a 2.00 GPA will have one semester to show academic improvement.

The Justin Carl Holman Memorial Award

 This $1,000 scholarship honors the memory of College Bound student and environmental activist Justin Carl Holman. It preserves his legacy of conservation and environmental justice by recognizing a current College Bound senior who shares his passion for the environment. 

College Bound students are eligible for this scholarship if:

  • They are a graduating high school senior
  • They have participated in the Academic Mentoring Program for at least one year

Applicants must demonstrate: 

  • A commitment to the environment through academic studies and/or community service OR
  • An intention to study environmental science, environmental politics or a related field in college

Completed scholarship applications are due by March 19, 2010.

Juliette Tyler Lewis Civic Award

This $1000 scholarship is available for current college students who participated as seniors in the College Bound Academic Mentoring Program. To qualify for the JTL Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

• Graduated high school while participating in the College Bound Academic Mentoring Program.
• Currently enrolled in college or graduate/professional school.
• Have a current cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Have a commitment to community service/volunteerism.

The application is due March 19.

JTL Award application available in mid-January.

 

UNCF 1890's Scholarship Program

 

The Monsanto Fund/UNCF 1890s Program is an innovative program that creates scholarship opportunities for African-Americans at one of the nineteen 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Institutions. Horatio Alger Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Association awards 25 $2500 scholarships to Greater Metro DC area graduating seniors who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, and a good academic record. Ron Brown Scholarship Program

 The Ron Brown Scholar Program seeks to identify African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society. Applicants must excel academically, exhibit exceptional leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need. The Ron Brown Scholar Program currently has two deadlines for applications (students must be current high school seniors at the time of their application):

November 1st - application will be considered for the Ron Brown Scholar Program AND forwarded to a select and limited number of additional scholarship providers.

January 9th - final postmarked deadline in order to be considered for only the Ron Brown Scholar Program ONLY.

Stokes Educational Scholarship Program
