In Memory of Zaire Kelly
It is with a very heavy heart that we share the tragic news of the passing of our student Zaire Kelly. Zaire was undoubtedly one of the most amazing young people that has participated in the College Bound program.
We are committed to ensuring that his life was not in vain and that his light will continue to shine through the work that we are doing at College Bound. We ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. In memory of Zaire and to continue the mark Zaire's life has left on the College Bound community, we are honored to establish a scholarship in his name. This fund has been created to provide financial support to young men like Zaire the opportunity to further their education and pursue their dreams. Statement from the Family of Zaire Kelly
The family wishes to express our gratitude to Thurgood Marshall Academy, College Bound, the Mayor Barry Youth Leadership Institute, DC City Officials, and community members for their condolences and outpouring of acts of kindness during this extremely difficult time. Words cannot even begin to express the profound grief we are feeling but we are comforted knowing that Zaire was loved and respected by so many people from so many different walks of life. Zaire had a personality and smile that easily filled any room he entered. A natural leader and athlete, people gravitated towards him because he projected confidence and self-awareness. Similar to most teenagers, he liked video games, girls, and being with his twin brother and friends. He was special to us for so many reasons. His consciousness and maturity meant he could engage in conversations ranging from climate change to gentrification. We were all looking forward to his senior year of high school and preparing for college, but sadly his life was cut short. We are immensely proud of him and all that he accomplish in this short time he was here with us. His life was not in vain. |
